American businessman of Ukrainian-Jewish origin, co-founder of WhatsApp Jan Koum is one of the most mysterious philanthropists in the world, writes Forbes.ua, referring to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. It’s turned out that some humanitarian programs that provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Europe and help with their evacuation are based on his donations.

In 2019-2020, Jan Koum, born in Fastiv (Kyiv region), donated about $70 million to Jewish charities in the United States, Eastern Europe, and about $140 in Israel. It is one of the most significant donations in the Jewish world. In particular, Koum donated $17 million to the European Jewish Association, which was almost its entire budget.

In March 2022, after the start of a full-scale Russian war against Ukraine, EJA launched a broad campaign to provide housing, clothing, food and medical care for Ukrainian migrants.

The Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS, which is also linked to Koum, received $10.6 million from him. At the beginning of the war, the organization formed a large ambulance fleet to evacuate from the war zone in Ukraine.
