The volunteer construction battalion (‚Dobrobat‘) is an initiative undertaken by volunteers, helping rebuild houses that have been affected by Russian shelling.
After Kyiv province was de-occupied, the initiators of the project, Viktor Andrusiv and Rostyslav Smirnov, saw a great many demolished houses, making a decision to help people rebuild their homes.
The initiative was joined by tens of thousands of volunteers.
‚Dobrobat’ is an initiative started by volunteers. It is about hope, unity and solidarity. It is about people from other provinces coming and offering help to those they have never met before, just because they want to help’, says the head of the project’s communications, Yuliya Kalynovska.
Apart from reconstruction works, volunteers are also needed to clear debris and complete repair works.
‚There is a great demand for people who would repair roofs and reinstall windows. Every missile launched or shelling round somewhere in Kherson, Kharkiv or Sumy province requires prompt action‘.
Yuliya says that after returning with her friends to Kyiv and seeing a great number of destroyed houses on her way back home, she burst into tears. Volunteering at ‚Dobrobat‘ helps her take her mind off anxiety and gloomy thoughts.
‚Lots of people come to help others. They value the fact that they have a roof over their heads, their own homes. Or they have their own room where they can go to after work or university, feeling more or less comfortable. And there are people who have nothing left’.
